The Sandhill Crane (Grus canadensis) at 4 to 5 feet tall and a wing span of 6 to 7 feet is Michigan's tallest bird. They nest typically in edges and surrounding uplands of shallow marshes, often in cattails.

Every day in Vicksburg holds the opportunity for something new. We host a variety of special events throughout the year — from art & crafts shows to the nationally recognized Old Car Festival.

1. Special Events

  • Museum Days
    The Vicksburg Deport Museum has more than 10,000 historical and genealogical items in its collection and maintains a historic village of buildings important to the development of Vicksburg and the south Kalamazoo county region. The museum hosts several Saturday events called "Museum Days." These events cover a host of topics from the Civil War to model railroading.

    the Historic Village and Depot Museum will be open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays May through December. Most of the buildings, including the museum, one-room school house, Commercial-Express print shop and restored caboose should be open for public visits.

  • Fulton Memorial Day Parade
    May 27, 2013: A Memorial Day Tradition by Hometown USA in downtown Fulton. 12:15 pm Children's Parade, 12:30 Grand Parade. No pre-registration required. Parade ends with a Memorial Service at the cemetery.

  • Memorial Day Parade
    May 27, 2013: Vicksburg Memorial Day Parade & Memorial Service hosted by The American Legion Post 213 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5189. Monday, May 28, 9:40 am Parade line up at the Old El, 10:00 am Parade begins, 10:40 am Memorial Service in the Highway Street cemetery. Parade participant registration is required, contact Smitty at (269)649-2753. Parade route: from Old El- north on Kalamazoo, west on Prairie, south on Main, west on Highway to Cemetery.

  • Vicksburg Farmers Market Opens
    May 17, 2013: Opening Day for the Vicksburg Farmers’ Market 2:30 to 6:30 at the Old Bobby's Drive-in parking lot. For more information and a list of vendors, click here

  • Vicksburg Old Car Festival
    June 7-8, 2012: This is Vicksburg's biggest event of the year. Hundreds of classic cars and hot rods. Thousands of visitors. Entertainment begins on Friday evening with 50-60s music and a "cruise". Saturday its the car exhibition and judging plus live entertainment, a swap meet & flee market, the annual Clark Park arts & craft show, Library Book sale, Gas & steam engine show at the Vicksburg Historic Museum grounds and much, much more...Interested in entering a car?

    We kick off with a cruise night on Friday night from 6:00-10:00pm. Cars and friends come to gather and get ready for the big car show on Saturday. A great night with a DJ and oldies music for old and young alike.

    Saturday morning cars come from all over to be in this family-fun Car Festival. Show runs from 9:00 a.m - 4:00 p.m. with trophies being awarded at 3:30.

    • Cost to pre-register your car is $10.00 before May 20th and $15.00 the day of the show.
    • We have live entertainment all day, peoples choice car awards. 1,000+ cars come to this event. Special guests to be announced.
    • An award winning Gas and Steam engine show takes place in our own Historic Village with working engines and lots of information on these vintage machines. And always a special display or invited guests to make it a fun event.
    • The Clark Park Arts & Crafts show takes place in conjunction with the Old Car Festival on Saturday June 13th. from 9:00-4:00pm. This juried show is in it's 18th year and is a great hit with everyone in attendance each year. A variety of great hand made items are always on display for sale.

  • Relay for Life
    June 22, 2013: The Vicksburg - Schoolcraft area Relay for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society start at 10:00AM at Schoolcraft Community High School track. For more information or to sign-up to participate, Click Here.

  • Taste of VIcksburg
    June 29, 2013: Taste of Vicksburg featuring local eateries offering selected menu dishes from 2 p.m. to midnight along Main and Prairie streets in downtown Vicksburg.

  • Lion's Club Summer Festival (aka Beer -n- Brats)
    July 25-27, 2013: Vicksburg Lion's Club presents the Annual Lion's Club Summer Festival, located at the park area next to the Brady Township Hall.

  • End of Summer Block Party
    August 17, 2013: Second annual Vicksburg Chamber End of Summer Block Party. Live bands, adult beverages, food, dancing in the streets and sidewalk sales, all downtown Vicksburg.

  • Art Hop & Shop
    August 23, 2013: The Vicksburg Art Hop and Shop is a community celebration of local artists, performers and businesses. Venues are within easy walking distance and maps are available at several host locations. While appreciating the works on display by our local talent, enjoy the sales and tasty nibbles offered by many of the businesses.

  • Harvest Festival
    September 29, 2013: To celebrate the Harvest, every year the Vicksburg Historical Society throws a party to celebrate. Plenty of family fun and entertainment. There's a pig roast, lamb brats and burgers on the grill, mexican food, coffees, cakes, and breads. Contests include pumkin carving, pie baking and flower arranging. New activities added each year as this event grows in popularity. Held on the grounds of the Museum's Historic Village, gates open at 10am.

  • Vicksburg Area Artist Show & Holiday Art Sale
    November 1, 2013 (5pm-9pm) and November 2, 2013 (9am - 3pm): Annual Holiday Art Sale. Ceramics, Stained Glass, Jewelry, Photography, Metal Art, Watercolors, Fiber Art and more...at Prudential Nursery on Sprinkle Rd - Vicksburg, Michigan.

  • Christmas Holiday Parade
    December 7, 2013: For over thirty years the Vicksburg Community Association has been sponsoring the annual Vicksburg Annual Parade. Step off is at 10:30 a.m.

    Everyone is welcome to participate in the parade -- line up is at Vicksburg Administration Building on Kalamazoo Ave. arrive no later than 10:00 a.m.

    Visit with Santa after the parade at the South County Community Center.

  • Boy Scout Paper Drive
    The 1st Saturday of each month, the local Boy Scout Troop #251 offers newspaper and telephone book recycling from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, Richardson Street south of the railroad tracks.

  • Bridge Club
    Vicksburg District Library Bridge Club meets every Tuesday from 9:30-11:30 am.

  • Ladies Library Auxiliary
    Vicksburg Ladies Library Auxiliary meets the 1st Friday of September, October, November December, March, April & May from 1-2:30 pm at the Library.

  • Lions Club Meetings
    Vicksburg Lions Club Meets every 2nd & 4th Monday @ 6:30 P.M. at the Vicksburg Community Center. Learn more

  • Monthly Blood Drive
    Bronson Vicksburg Hospital will host a community blood drive the first Thursday of each month in 2010 from 3-8 p.m. Bronson Vicksburg Hospital is located at 13326 N. Boulevard Ave. No preregistration is necessary.

  • Quilter's Club
    Vicksburg District Library Quilters Club meets monthly, call 649-1648 for schedule.

  • Vicksburg Historical Society
    The Vicksburg Historical Society regularly meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month May through November, 7 pm, at Vicksburg Museum, unless otherwise noted.

  • Village Meetings
    The Village meets the 1st and 3rd Mondays each month, 7 pm, at South County Community Services. June, July and August 3rd Mondays only.
